Vocational and Enterprise Training

Poverty reduction through earning a living

We have a template for Vocational and Enterprise Training aimed specifically at poverty reduction by training people to earn a living through building skills.

A new Institute can be created or courses taken individually.

Standards are based on ILO MES (International Labour Organisation Modules of Employable Skills) and UK.

Courses are very practical and flexible and can cater for disabled and traumatized.

Each successful trainee is awarded a small tool kit appropriate to their craft and interest and if relevant a bicycle.

We have four key principles:

  • the provision of skills with which individuals can earn a living locally by the creation an enterprise, or by working as an individual
  • the production of products needed and possible to sell locally as an integral part of learning and practice by students
  • courses to produce certificates recognizable by major contractors
  • where relevant, the earning of revenue by an Institute to ensure sustainability and growth.

A typical course will consist of 8 weeks technical instruction followed by either 2 weeks of training to be a trainer or 2 weeks learning how to start an enterprise followed by practicing as a pseudo enterprise in making and selling something wanted locally with if relevant revenue attributable to an Institute.

Each course has a set of tools and technical equipment.

We can work in post conflict zones before normal water, power and accommodation services are resumed by working closely with camp operators AFEX.

Through a camp we can provide water through new bore holes, electricity, kitchens, showers and toilets, voice and data telecommunications, transport and tents in which to lecture and accommodate staff.

Typical courses include:

Carpentry
Dry stone walling
Electrical
Hospitality (given a camp)
Mud blocks (interlocking stabilised soil blocks - ISSBs) Piping
Plumbing
Tiling
Welding.
